KC Buklod San Pablo brightens
Christmas for 700 kids.
Christmas for 700 kids.
KC Buklod San Pablo lifted the spirits of nearly 700 young children last Dec 30,2009 by bringing the Project: Maligayang Pasko mula sa Kiwanis to three Laguna barangays which were hard hit by the recent series of typhoons.
Led by Pres Wilson Anzurez, 10 KC Buklod San Pablo members visited Pagalangan,Victoria; Bubucal, Sta. Cruz and Calumpang, Liliw with food and gifts from contributions raised mainly by the Kiwanis Clubs of Division 3 of the California-Nevada-Hawaii District.
280 tots from Brgy. Pagalangan, Victoria, Laguna were treated to an afternoon of games, food, candies and school supplies. These children are beneficiaries of an ongoing supplementary feeding program organized on November, 2009 by KC Buklod San Pablo with the support of Div 3 Kiwanians, the Risen Savior Missions, UP Tau Rho Xi Fraternity, Pisay Dos and MSC institute of Technology.
Heavy rains brought by Typhoon Ondoy raised the level of Laguna Lake and submerged most areas of Brgy. Pagalangan including its elementary school. Classes were initially transferred to an abandoned duckhouse but later moved to the central school because of heavy lice infestation in the duckhouse.
The KC Buklod San Pablo volunteers proceeded to the former San Luis Sports Complex in Barangay Santa Cruz, Laguna to join Emelita "Tita" San Luis of the Kiwanis Club of La Canada, Atty Domy Anonuevo of the UP Tau Rho Xi Fraternity and the local Couples for Christ chapter headed by Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Ching in entertaining about 200 young evacuees.
The capital town of Sta. Cruz was severely affected by Typhoons Ondoy and Santi and those remaining in the Bubucal evacuation center were among those whose houses were destroyed. Last November, KC Buklod also in cooperation with the Couples for Christ and the UP Tau Rho Xi Fraternity distributed 50 boxes (more than 10,000 adult servings) of fortified rice from the Risen Saviour Missions.
Later that day, KC Buklod members went to the Sts Joachim and Anne Parish in Calumpang, Liliw, Laguna with school supplies and candies for 200 pre schoolers for the Gift Giving project organized by Fr. Rudy Carabuena. Aside from Div 3 clubs, other donors include Ms Prosy Pugay, Serge Javier; Geng and Luke Prudente and the Risen Savior Missions.
Many of Fr. Rudy's parishioners living along the banks of Calumpang river lost their homes when flash floods from the mountains carrying logs and boulders destroyed everything in its path.
Charter President Angel Prudente, Sec. Nica Prudente, Treas. Wena Anzures, Chris Silva, Phil Danila, Axis Aguila, Denmar Dionglay and Ike Prudente joined Pres. Wilson in these projects.
